When is the best time to prune?

For most trees, late winter to early spring, while they're dormant. But dead, broken, or hazardous limbs can and should come off any time of year. Some flowering and fruit trees have their own timing, and we'll tell you what's best for yours.

How much can you safely take off a tree?

Less than most people expect. Removing too much stresses a tree and forces weak, fast growth. As a rule, we take no more than a quarter of the live canopy in a season, and we make every cut count.

Can you prune my fruit trees?

Yes. Fruit trees need regular, structured pruning to stay productive and healthy. We prune for shape, airflow, and yield, so your trees give you fruit instead of problems.

Will pruning hurt my tree?

Not when it's done right. Clean cuts placed at the branch collar let the tree seal the wound and stay strong. Bad cuts, flush cuts, and topping are what cause decay. That's the difference a trained arborist makes.
