Owner & Operator About Willard's
Meet Will Willard
Will Willard began his career in the tree service industry in the summer of 2018. An Olympia native and new to the trade, Will started on the ground — chipping brush and running ropes for the climbers above him. It wasn't long before he realized he wanted to be aloft, caring for his community's trees.
After countless hours of study focused on becoming an arborist, Will incorporated as Willard's Tree Care in 2020. As owner and operator of a local business, there is a lifetime of knowledge to obtain in this line of work — and Will continues to master his craft with decorum.
Why Willard's
Careful, insured tree work
you can actually trust.
Tree work goes wrong in expensive, dangerous ways when it's done by the wrong hands. Here's what you get when you hire a real arborist instead.
Licensed, Bonded & Insured
Real coverage on every job, and we hand you proof before a single cut. Insurance is the line between a professional and a cowboy with a chainsaw.
Climbed, Not Just Felled
Technical removals done aloft with ropes and rigging, so trees come down in controlled sections — never onto your roof, fence, or the lines overhead.
Local & Owner-Operated
Olympia born and run by Will himself. You deal with the person doing the work — not a call center, not a rotating crew of subcontractors.
Spotless When We Leave
Brush chipped, wood stacked or hauled, and the whole site raked clean. A tidy property is part of the job here, never an add-on.

The right way
Not the cheapest truck
in the neighborhood.
The lowest bid usually isn't the lowest cost. Here's the difference between a discount crew and a licensed arborist who stands behind the work.
The cheap way
- No insurance — you carry the liability
- Whole trees dropped, hoping they miss the house
- A rotating crew you have never met
- Ruts, sawdust, and a pile left behind
- A lowball price that grows once work starts
The Willard's way
- Licensed, bonded & insured — proof in hand
- Technical, roped removals that protect your property
- Will on site, accountable for the work
- Site chipped, stacked, and raked clean
- A firm written price, quoted in person
From the neighborhood
Trusted across Thurston County.
Will took down two big firs leaning over our house without touching the roof or the garden beds. Cleaned up so well you could barely tell a crew had been there.
Fair price, showed up when he said he would, and clearly knows trees. He talked us out of removing one that just needed pruning — honest guy.
Had a storm-damaged limb hanging over the driveway. Willard’s came out fast, made it safe, and hauled everything off. Highly recommend.
Through the seasons
A year in the canopy
Trees ask for different care as the year turns. Here's the rhythm we keep across Thurston County — and the best time to get each job on the calendar.
-
Late Winter
Dormant-Season Pruning
Bare branches make winter the ideal window for major pruning and removals — clear sightlines, less stress on the tree, and the cleanest cuts of the year.
-
Spring
Health Check & Shaping
As the canopy wakes up, we catch disease and pests early and shape young trees so they grow strong, balanced, and clear of your roofline.
-
Summer
Thinning & Deadwood
A full canopy reveals what's dead or overcrowded. Selective thinning lets light and air through, and we clear deadwood before it can drop.
-
Fall
Storm-Proofing
Before winter blows in off the Sound, we cable weak unions, take down hazards, and clear limbs leaning over the house — so the next storm is a non-event.

Always. Brush gets chipped, wood is stacked or hauled, and the site is raked clean. A tidy site is part of the job, not an add-on.
